Our Weekend

Happy Monday morning! I woke up to a foggy, gloomy day today, but I honestly don't mind it. I always feel like you need a few rainy and/or gloomy days (they would just be much better if I could be at home in my pajamas for all of them and not at work!).

We had a nice, relaxing weekend although it's still a little hot for my liking. We are supposed to be getting some cooler weather next weekend though, so I can't wait for that!

Clint's family came over on Friday evening for my birthday dinner. We had delicious food, and it was nice to see and hang out with everyone. On Saturday, we got up and made some french toast, did a few house projects, ran a few errands and finally put up Harper's swing! My mom bought it for her, and it has been sitting in our back yard for several weeks now. I'm so glad we finally got around to getting it put up because she loves it! We went to Clint's aunt and uncle's house on Saturday night and watched the Razorback game, which actually turned out better than anyone thought it would. We ate some delicious BBQ as well :)

Clint had to work yesterday, so Harper and I got up and went to Church, came home and took a nap, and then I did some shopping/looking around with Clint's mom. Harper stayed at home with her Bebe. I'm not sure that she is a great shopping partner just yet, haha. After I got home, I did some closet organizing and put out some of my Fall decorations. Harper was a great help constantly shutting the closet doors with me inside!

It's funny how fast she is developing her own little personality. She changes and learns new things every single day. She's also getting a little temper on her and gets very angry when she doesn't get what she wants. I've also noticed that she plays rough, which I guess is a result of staying at home with Daddy several days a week. I have a feeling she's going to be a tough girl that can hold her own if needed! Haha

Ever since the week of my trip to Charleston, I have kinda fell off the bandwagon when it comes to eating good and working out. I've got to get back in the swing of things this week, so to the gym I go today!

Five on Friday

I'm so happy that it's Friday, so that I can enjoy the nice weekend with my family :)

1. Yesterday was my birthday, so I'm now officially in my "late twenties." I turned 27. I feel like once you get past a certain age, birthdays are just birthdays. I did have a great day yesterday though, and I'm just so thankful and blessed to have another year of life and all the great things in my life!

2. I unexpectedly got to be on one of our popular, local radio stations yesterday morning! The Alice 107.7 Heather and Pool Boy Show has been participating in a weekly King of the Kitchen Contest sponsored by the Beef Council. A specific type of dish (with beef) is determined each week and both DJs and one listener make that dish. Someone from the Beef Council tastes and judges which is the best out of the three, and someone wins! Their listener cook for yesterday had to drop out at the last minute, so they were asking for anyone who might have a crockpot beef dish to call in to participate yesterday morning. I just so happened to have some Taco Soup I had made the night before in the car with me to eat for lunch. I texted in, and they called and told me to come on in! I got to be on the radio for 5-10 minutes and got second place in the contest. I got to meet my two favorite DJs, and also got a few goodies. It was a fun, birthday surprise :)

3. I'm very excited for tonight because my mother-in-law is making a birthday dinner with two of my favorites: Macaroni Grill's Penne Rustica and German Chocolate Brownies! I feel like I ate terrible all last weekend in Charleston and continued that into this week, so why not take it into this weekend as well? I'll start over on Monday :)

4. This week really kicks off the Fall TV shows, and I'm so excited! I feel like there has been hardly anything decent to watch all Summer long, so I'm super excited to have all of my shows come back on.

5. Natasha from Hello! Happiness has a blog that I read everyday. She had a great post on Tuesday that I wanted to pass along. It's about comparison to others and being content, and I would recommend everyone check it out.

Charleston Trip Recap

Ashley and I had a WONDERFUL time in Charleston this past weekend. It was such a nice, relaxing trip that was much needed. We had both wanted to go to Charleston for what seems like forever, so we just decided to plan a long girl's weekend getaway and thought September would be the perfect time. We arrived on Thursday evening and left on Sunday morning, so we had two full days to cram a lot into! I will tell you ahead of time that I accidentally deleted all of my pictures from the trip, so I don't have pictures of everything I want to share. Ashley sent me some of her pictures though, so I'll include the best ones out of the bunch.

When we arrived on Thursday evening, we checked into the hotel and immediately went to dinner at a restaurant near the hotel that one of the desk clerks had recommended, Coast. We both had the same thing- delicious tilapia.

We went to the Market Pavilion Rooftop Bar for a a quick drink, and then decided to go back to the hotel and get in bed because we had planned an early start the next day.

On Friday morning, we decided to eat breakfast at a little place we had read about from several different places, Toast. I had some delicious chocolate chip pancakes, bacon and a caramel latte.

We had booked a tour with Palmetto Carriage Tours to see some of the downtown Historic area and some of the big, old houses in the Battery area. It was well worth it, and we got to see and learned a lot.

After our carriage tour, we walked around the Battery area for a little longer, and then went to lunch at Henry's on the Market where I had some great crab cakes!

After lunch, we walked through the Market and walked down by the water.

It was just so pretty, peaceful and relaxing. We took a tour of the Edmondston-Alston House, which was pretty cool, and then we walked all the way down King Street where there was any and every store that you can think of. We pretty much just window shopped, but it was fun. Before going back to the hotel to rest and get ready for dinner, we stopped by Cupcake Down South for an afternoon treat :)

We headed to dinner at Bocci's, and then stopped for dessert at Kaminsky's Most Excellent Cafe. Can you tell that we ate the WHOLE ENTIRE TRIP? I mean, isn't that what you're supposed to do in Charleston??

The next morning we had plans to rent a car to go visit Boone Hall Plantation and Isle of Palms beach. We picked up our car and headed toward Mount Pleasant to have some breakfast at Charleston's Cafe (where I had chocolate chip pancakes, bacon and a latte once again!).

I'll preface this part of the post by saying that Boone Hall was one of the places I was most looking forward to visiting when planning this trip. My favorite movie of all time is The Notebook, and lots of scenes from the movie were filmed at Boone Hall. It is also where Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively got married last September.

We pulled up to the entrance and realized there was no one at the gate where you purchase tickets. We were surprised but drove on through admiring all the scenery. When we pulled up to the street leading up to the house with row of huge oaks, we noticed a lot of people milling around and tents and booths set up. Little did we know (and not posted on their website), the Highland Scottish Games and Festival was taking place at Boone Hall that day. We didn't think much about it until we were directed to a field for parking (which we had to pay for) and were ushered to an alternate entrance to pay for our (more expensive) tickets to the Festival. In the short time that we parked and got to the entrance, tons of other people were showing up. I was SUPER disappointed (and told the lady selling tickets that, which seemed to really bust her bubble) that our perfect day at Boone Hall was going to be ruined by all of the "Scottish" people in kilts, playing bagpipes.

Needless to say, we did still get to take the house tour, walk around the area where the slave cabins are located and relax at the Dock House. However, everywhere we went there were bagpipes playing totally different music throughout the whole plantation, so none of it sounded the least bit good or enjoyable.

Even with all the festival people in our way, it's an absolutely beautiful property, and I'm so glad we got to go.

After leaving Boone Hall we headed to the Isle of Palms Beach, which was also stunning. I've only ever been to Florida's beaches that I can remember and this was so different, but somewhere that I would definitely be interested in taking a beach vacation to in the future.

We ate lunch at Coconut Joe's, right on the beach, and headed back to Charleston to do a little shopping and resting before dinner.

For our last night in Charleston, we ate dinner at Magnolia's. Ashley and I shared fried chicken, mashed potatoes, creamed corn and biscuits and got our own desserts. I don't have picture of our meal because it disappeared too fast, but I do have pictures of my tomato soup and dessert.

We ended the evening sitting out on the dock near the Battery area, just enjoying the cool weather.

Although I missed Harper and Clint so much, I am so happy that we got to go and enjoy each other's company. We had so much fun and were blessed with really good weather the entire time we were there. I would recommend a Charleston vacation to anyone who might be interested and would highly recommend everything that we did and everywhere that we ate!

Dressing a Little Girl

I don't have to buy clothing for Harper often because we have family members who buy her a lot! I do see some really cute stuff sometimes that I really want to get for her. She doesn't get out much because she stays at home with family during the week. Because of that she's in comfortable, cotton play clothes and pajamas a lot of the time. I do like to dress her up though when we go to Church, out to eat, the grocery store, etc.

I've heard from friends and family that little girls are so much more fun to shop for because there is a bigger variety and selection. Since Harper is our first, I've only had the opportunity to buy for a girl, and it is really fun! No matter where I go, I always see something cute that I want to get for her. It's like a race to have her wear everything in her closet before she grows out of it though, so I try to refrain from buying very often. Here are some cute things that I found today from Gap.com. By the way, they are having 40% off all regular priced merchandise today!

I found those super cute pajamas for Harper on Gap.com, and I love cute pajamas for her! I'm also a sucker for any type of lounge clothes for myself because that's what I live in when I get home from work and on the weekends. I saw this Happy Camper shirt on another blog that I read, and it looks SUPER comfy! Also, Santa Claus might have to bring Harper those silver Hunter boots because they are adorable.

First Year Favorites

Well, I made it back from my trip, and I'm still recovering. I went to bed at 8:30 last night! I'm going to get some pictures up on here soon, but long story short, I lost all my pictures that I took with my camera :( I'm going to get some from my cousin, and then I'll get them posted!

I wanted to write today about some of our first year favorites for Harper. I know a lot of people will do favorites by month or every couple of months, but I just decided that I would post some of the essentials that we couldn't have lived without!

I definitely didn't breastfeed for the whole 12 months, but I did love the Medela pump that I used while I did. I borrowed an older model/style from a relative but for the next baby, I'm going to purchase this one:

I would suggest any of the Medela brand pumps for anyone that is having a baby and wants to breastfeed/pump.

We also love our Diaper Genie Elite and are still using it. The refills are a little pricey, but I think it's worth it to keep the stink away!

We followed the suggestion of many people and went with the Chicco KeyFit 30 Travel System in the Limonata color. I thought that we could use it for our next baby, whether it be a boy or girl. I don't know that they sell this color anymore, but any of the styles would be great! Harper can actually still fit in this seat, although we don't still use it exclusively.

We used the Pampers Swaddlers and Huggies Little Snugglers diapers until she grew out of Newborn and size 1. Once we got to size 2, we started using Luvs. We liked the Pampers and Huggies when she was little because they would show you if she was wet or dirty. Once we got to size 2, the Luvs have worked great ever since and are more cost friendly. I would suggest to anyone having a baby to have a diaper and wipes shower. I had one at work, and we didn't have to buy diapers or wipes for what seems like months and months!

We also got one of the Aden + Anais blankies as a shower gift, and Harper LOVES it! They are very thin and she has already wore one to shreds, but we bought a pack of two to replace it. She sleeps with it every night.

Another must have would be the Boon drying rack (make sure you get the biggest one!).

Knowing that Harper would outgrow her first car seat pretty soon, we purchased the new Chicco NextFit a couple of months ago. We really like it because it seems very heavy duty. It has lots of padding and is very heavy, so I feel like it's really safe.

Once Harper started eating "snacks" I saw these Itzy Ritzy snack bags that I thought were so cute. You can get them in different sizes and patterns and can put them in the dishwasher! These are great for younger or older kids.

Harper has TONS of toys and has a lot of favorites, but I thought I would list two of her favorite larger items. I bought this Fisher Price Laugh and Learn house from a co-worker a couple of months ago, and I'm so glad I did! It keeps her busy a lot of the time.

She got this Radio Flyer wagon for her birthday, and it is definitely a favorite. We go on lots of walks around the neighborhood.

Her favorite thing to play with outside of everything else though is a book. She has TONS of books and loves to take them out of their bin, look through them and have us read them to her over and over. I always try to pick up a new book when I'm out and about and other family members do as well, so she has quite a collection.

We are getting some cooler weather here in Arkansas finally, so I hope you all have a great first week of Fall!
